Abstract

{SUMMARY} The author summarizes the beginnings of the {AAMR} Religion and Spirituality Division from 1960-1983. He then describes in more detail the growth of the organization in the 1980s and 1990s. Three broad areas of the Division's activities are discussed: (1) interfaith dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration; (2) the development of resources to support the practice of religion and the spirituality of persons with intellectual disabilities; and (3) efforts to support professionals in ministry with people with disabilities. Future directions of the Division are summarized.
