Abstract

{SUMMARY} The passages in the Torah referring to the physical perfection required of priests {(Leviticus} 21:16-24) are often erroneously understood to refer to all Israelites. Not only are these standards required only of priests, once the Temple was destroyed these standards were gradually relaxed in connection with the most salient priestly activity left: the priestly benediction.
