Abstract

{SUMMARY} This article is adapted from Dr. Birch's presentation at the Disability Convocation: Opening Hearts, Minds, and Doors in Seminary Communities held March 15, 2002, at Wesley Theological Seminary. States a theological mandate for welcome in theological education to people with disabilities and addresses challenges facing theological schools that choose such a welcoming posture. Areas of examination include support services, physical facilities, curriculum, and faculty. The article concludes by looking at several areas where limitations must be faced realistically. These issues are assessed with respect to financial cost, critical student population, and limits of admissibility.
