Abstract

This collaborative research project between the Uniting Church in Australia and the Victorian state government investigated the experiences of people with disabilities and faith leaders, from Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim perspectives, in relation to disability and inclusion in faith communities. Completed in 2010, with a sample of 18 interviewees, the findings and discussion are explored within four categories: (a) understandings, perception and experiences of inclusion, (b) obstacles and suggested strategies to increase participation, (c) people's interpretations of their disability and the teachings/beliefs of their religion/faith community, and (d) role of leadership to encourage positive change.
