Abstract

{ABSTRACT} While prayer for recovery from injury or a disabling circumstance is common, prayer for healing within the medical setting is often treated cautiously, even suspiciously. This chaplain in a state mental health hospital is candid about his own fears and his discoveries when praying for heating with clients. Although many people and faith groups have varying beliefs and practices about healing, appropriate client, staff, and community cooperation is possible and empowering to all individuals participating. Religious delusion, religious freedom, and individual and group prayers for healing are discussed.
